Lioco Pinot Noir 2019; Mendocino County, CA ($27.99) – A very impressive effort for an “the entry level” wine. Dry farming, sustainability and a light touch with the use of oak are priorities for winemaker Matt Licklider. Pretty aromas of violets, cherries, tea and bay leaf with flavors of dark plum and raspberry and an elegantly balanced finish.  A solid warm weather red to pair with salmon, pulled pork and mushroom dishes.

End of the Vine “Slip Stream Red” 2017; North Coast, CA ($21.99, discounted 25% by the case!) – Another delicious “mystery wine” from our pal Lee at End of the Vine. A robust blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Sirah, sourced from some of the finest vineyards sites in California whose locations cannot be revealed. Aromas of currants, black fruits and spice with rich structure, fine tannins and judicious use of oak leading to a full bodied yet round and silky finish. Serve with your favorite grilled foods at the backyard barbeque or firm aged cheeses.

Isola Augusta Pinot Nero 2019; Friuli, Italy ($17.99, discounted 25% by the case!) – Here is one of Jenn’s best friends in a bottle. This is a versatile red you can confidently serve at any casual dinner party or fully vaxxed gathering. Notes of wild red berries, warm spices, raspberry, and savory herbs, this is a light red you may serve slightly chilled with simple grilled meats, risotto or charcuterie.

Chateau Vignol Rosé 2020; Bordeaux, France ($15.99) – A lively rosé of Merlot, Cabernet and Cabernet Franc. Pale pink in color with aromas of fresh sliced berries and a hint of rose.  On the palate it is quite dry with a tad more structure, concentrated red fruit and honeydew melon. Just the teeniest bit of spritz and crisp acidity on the finish make it a nice pairing with shellfish, goat cheese or chicken salad.

Domaine de La Chapelle Mâcon Solutré Pouilly 2020; Mâcon Villages, Burgundy, France ($27.99) – If you think the name is a mouthful, wait until you taste the wine! All the fruit is hand harvested, with super concentrated nose of tree fruit-like apple, pear and a touch of flint. Plenty of tangy acid and a touch of oak on the finish, which goes on and on and on…This would rival any fine Pouilly Fuisse to say the least. Delicious with river fish, roasted birds or bacon wrapped scallops.

Veяus Vienyards Furmint 2019; Štajerska, Slovenia ($19.99) – Talk about a wine being off the beaten path… This is a fairly new winery established in 2007, and represents a new wave of really interesting wines flowing in from Eastern Europe. Uniquely gentle floral bouquet with hints of quince, pear, green apple, peach or lemon/lime. The wine has a full-bodied flavor with a pleasant freshness and ages very well, much like a fine Riesling or Grüner Veltliner. Verus is Latin for ‘true’. Like Grüner, it plays well with hard to pair foods like tomatoes, asparagus and artichokes, and also complements mild fish in light cream sauces.

Jones von Drehle Viognier 2019; Yadkin Valley, NC ($21.99) – We are always asked “what is your favorite North Carolina winery?” and we always answer “Jones von Drehle”. Not only is the winery a beautiful property, it is operated by two of the nicest people in the business – Diana and Chuck Jones. This is one of the best domestic Viogniers we've tried here at the shop, and they manage one of the largest plantings of Viognier in the state. The signature floral aromas of white flower and mineral are matched with tart green apple skin, peach and apricot. This is a delicate, well balanced wine with soft acidity and a full yet crisp finish. Try it with boiled NC shrimp, crabcakes or cool summer salads. If you are in their area, call ahead for a tour and tasting – you won’t be disappointed.

We Want Your Cork!

We have now partnered with CORKCLUB to recycle your natural and synthetic wine corks. CORKCLUB is a sustainability initiative funded by WIDGETCO to benefit Forest and Ocean Conservation.  WIDGETCO has been a leading wine cork recycler since 2007. Their objective is to grow wine cork recycling by collecting your corks and donating money to help preserve the Earth.  You enjoy the wine and CORKCLUB recycles your corks into various consumer and building products.

You may drop off your corks to us curbside during our business hours of 12-6pm everyday. Please do NOT leave corks at our door or on the sidewalk when we are closed. Also, please make sure your cork donations have NO metal screw caps, cages from sparkling wines or any other foreign materials, only natural or synthetic corks in a sealed ziplock bag or cardboard box.

For each natural cork received, they donate 2 cents each (less shipping and carbon offsets)  to select non-profit entities that clean plastic from our oceans, prevent deforestation, and teach us all better ways to live in harmony with our Earth. For each synthetic cork they receive, it gets recycled into various consumer products. It's a simple project with an ambitious goal, to help recycle every wine cork while benefiting Forest and Ocean Conservation. WIDGETCO and CORKCLUB have donated over $120,000 to non-profits as a result of wine cork recycling efforts to conservation organizations such as:
